Paint the Town Blue: Olympia

Paint the Town Blue are events put on by YDWA, giving Young Democrats a chance to explore a new town, meet other Democrats, and support local communities. to Last year’s PTB events in Spokane and Vancouver were so successful that we decided to do them again this year. First PTB was in Olympia from July 31 – Aug 2.

Our welcome reception was at Tugboat Annie’s. Tumwater Councilwoman Nicole Hill, Olympia Councilman Jim Cooper and Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder joined us to help us eat one of Tugboat Annie’s giant Barge Burgers. We got through about half of it (hand provided for scale).

The next morning, we met up at Bagel Brothers to support our priority candidate in Olympia, Jessica Bateman.

We were able to knock on 571 doors and help push her over the top on primary day!

Later the in day, we went kayaking and paddleboarding on Olympia’s Budd Inlet. It even only took us 15 minutes to steer together to get our selfie!

For our evening event on Saturday, we heard from Dennis Eagle and KD Chapman about insider Olympia life at the McMenamin’s Spar Café. Rounding out the weekend on Sunday, we ended up at famous local landmark The Reef for breakfast Sunday morning.

Finally, thank you so much to our welcome reception sponsor, Tumwater City Councilwoman Nicole Hill for supporting our fantastic PTB weekend!
