Welcome to YDWA: Snohomish County Young Democrats!

Welcome to YDWA: Snohomish County Young Democrats! They became an official chapter of the Young Democrats of Washington January 2014. If live in Snohomish County and want to get involved like their Facebook page here!

How the chapter was formed –I attended the Young Democrats meeting at the WSDCC quarterly meeting in Lake Chelan. When it was my turn for introductions I stated that I had just chartered a Young Democrats group in the Tri-Cities but was now living in Everett. When the YDWA leadership who were there (Sarah Kohout chief among them) heard this they recruited me to try to re-form the inactive chapter of the Snohomish County Young Democrats. I was able to track down some of the previous officers and get admin access to the Facebook page (which had/has over 400 likes) and was able to find some people interested in starting the group back up. I also went to a monthly meeting of one of the local legislative district Democrats and found a couple more. Unfortunately though finding people who were interested and getting them to show up to meetings were two completely different things. As I attended more local functions I slowly started meeting more people and making more connections. I met Mario Brown at the 1st LD also donated $500 to SCYD after I spoke to Rich, the LD’s Chair, at the picnic. After I told Conor about my efforts to restart the group he offered to help find more potential members. Even though he doesn’t live in Snohomish County he knew enough people from his involvement in the area and through going to school at UW to find just enough people interested in chartering the group. We hijacked the 21st Dems’ meeting at Portofino’s Pizza and Pasta in Edmonds on December 18th and Conor Bronsdon brought several other YDs to help support and set up the meeting.  We elected our officers, had some great pizza, and approved our constitution..

Next on my list of things to do: Set up our chapter’s bank account.
