YDWA’s Paint the Town Blue weekends are a new endeavour to mix all the things all Democrats (not just young ones) are looking for into one jam-packed weekend of action. We provide lodging and food, and Young Democrats come out and participate in activism, education, networking, and fun. The 2014 Spokane weekend was our first attempt, and a tremendous success! Check our our highlights:
After a long drive across the state, the Young Democrats arrived in Spokane for their welcome reception at Hills’ Restaurant and Lounge. Rep. Timm Ormsby was able to stop by as well!
The next morning we ate breakfast at Molly’s with Sen. Andy Billig and candidate Amy Biviano.
Lynda ordered this monstrosity!
Doorbelling blitz for YDWA targeted candidate Rich Cowan! We knocked on 661 doors and put out several yard signs.
Later in the afternoon we toured Rich Cowan’s film production company, North By Northwest.
We got to learn about types of film, sound and light editing, the history of the studio, what it takes to make a TV show, and the equipment they use to film. Each lens is worth over $20,000, but Rich still let us hold one.
One of the coolest things they’re working on is a TV show out of Spokane called ZNation, which will air on the Syfy Network! We got to see their secret planning room and couldn’t take photos of everything, but Sarah definitely snap-chatted her favorite character to friends.
To cap off a great Saturday we attended a Spokane Indian’s baseball game! We got a lot of great pictures with their mascots.
David, heartlessly rooted for the opposing team, the Everett Aquasox.
Over all, this was a fantastic adventure, which was made possible by some generous donors. We want to take a minute to thank them all: Sharon Smith, Carol Carpenter, Lisa Brown, Rep. Timm Ormsby and Sen. Andy Billig.
