Operations Department
Development Director
- Develop an annual fundraising goal for YDWA, then working with YDWA’s Vice President of Operations and President to form a plan to meet that goal
- Raises funds through personal, phone, electronic, and print solicitation
- Proposes new revenue enhancement projects
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with current and potential donors
- Coordinates fundraising events in cooperation with YDWA’s Events Director
- Tracks donations made to YDWA in cooperation with YDWA’s Financial Director
(If you’re unfamiliar with any aspects of the role, but are eager to learn, we’re more than happy to provide training.)
Events Director
- Assists the Vice President of Operations, President, and any Convention Coordinator(s) designated by the President with the annual State Convention, held between February-May
- Identifies, vets, and liaises with vendors and suppliers for events on YDWA’s behalf
- Negotiates prices and costs associated with events with outside parties on YDWA’s behalf
- Coordinates fundraising events, in cooperation with YDWA’s Development Director
(The services of the Events Director will be required primarily during planning of our annual State Convention from February-May with smaller-scale events through the rest of the year. As such, this role’s time commitment varies through the year. An expected time commitment could be 5 hours/week except for February-May when the time commitment could become 10-15 hours/week depending on delegation.)
Finance Director
- Works with the Vice President of Operations and President to write an annual budget
- Works with the Vice President of Operations to manage the organization’s day to day expenditures
- Maintains records of all receipts and disbursements of YDWA funds, in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Tracks donations made to YDWA, in cooperation with YDWA’s Development Director
- Reports financial activity on YDWA’s General Board conference calls throughout the year
- Keeps YDWA’s financial records in balance, filing Public Disclosure Commission reports as needed, and serving as YDWA’s chief compliance officer

Membership Engagement Department
Each Region Director is responsible for recruiting new chapters, keeping an accurate account of members in their region’s chapters, coordinating our Paint The Town Blue events, and hosting quarterly meetings for their region’s chapters. You may only apply to be the Region Director for the area you reside within.
Eastern Regional Director
- The Eastern Region comprises every chapter East of the Cascades. Its Westernmost counties are Okanogan, Chelan, Kittitas, and Benton. This region does not include Yakima or Klickitat.
Southern Regional Director
- The Southern Region comprises every chapter West of the Cascades and South of King County. Its Easternmost counties are Yakima and Klickitat. Grays Harbor serves as the region’s Northwesternmost county. Mason County is included in the Southern Region as well.
Western Regional Director Application
- The Western Region comprises every county North of Pierce County and West of the Cascades. This region does not include Mason County nor Grays Harbor due to their relative geographic ease in engaging with other Southern Region chapters compared to King County and northward.
Government Affairs Department
Advocacy Director
- Communicates with legislators as needed
- Assists VP of Government Affairs in coordinating our annual Lobby Day
- Organizes lobbying and issue specific trainings
- Works with VP of Government Affairs and the Caucus Director to ensure caucus needs are met via lobbying
(The services of the Advocacy Director will be required primarily during the planning of our annual Lobby Day during January or February with smaller-scale activities through the rest of the year. As such, this role’s time commitment varies through the year. An expected time commitment could be 5 hours/week except for January-February when the time commitment could become 10hr/week depending on delegation.)
Caucus Director
- Works to identify leaders within YDWA chapters to lead caucuses
- Recruits those leaders and trains them on caucus functions
- Helps caucuses identify and carry out projects based on their topics of concern
Communications Department
Current Affairs Director
- Tracks news stories and current events to ensure communications reflect the topics of the day
- Works with caucus leaders to identify important pre-scheduled events such as holidays and plans appropriate messaging
- Updates YDWA members with newsletters on current happenings as needed.
Digital Media Director
- Maintains the organization’s digital media profile (Twitter and Facebook)
- Seeks out opportunities to produce videos, graphics, and other media materials
- Organizes YDWA’s participation in media campaigns that engage Young Democrats from across the state.
