What happens after I register?

After you register, you’ll reach a confirmation page and receive a confirmation email. You are good to go afterwards!

You do not need a physical ticket to check-in during the event, we will just need your QR code we provide in the confirmation email or some form of identification (including student ID cards). Do not worry too much about this though.

What do I need to bring to Convention? Is there a dress code?

We do not require a dress code for any part of the event but traditionally our members generally wear semi-formal attire to the banquet and VIP reception. Wear whatever you’re most comfortable in.

Other than clothes, we recommend bringing everything you need to stay the weekend at the hotel including your toothbrush and other toiletries.

You’ll want to have the QR code from your confirmation email handy (either printed out or on your mobile device) for quick check-in.

Do I need to be a member of a local chapter?

Nope!

How do I become a member of my local chapter?

These are our currently chartered chapters:

  •     • Clallam County
  •     • Clark County
  •     • Central Washington University
  •     • Gonzaga University
  •     • Island County
  •     • King County
  •     • Kitsap County
  •     • Skagit County
  •     • Snohomish County
  •     • Spokane County
  •     • Thurston County
  •     • Tri-Cities
  •     • University of Washington
  •     • Whatcom County
  •     • Washington State University
  •     • Western Washington University

Additionally, we have folks currently organizing chapters in these areas to charter soon:

  •     • Eastern Washington University
  •     • Wenatchee High School
  •     • Seattle University

If you’d like to be a member of a local chapter that already exists, you can find them on Facebook or during the event and ask them how to get involved!

If there is not a chapter in your area or school and you would like to help charter a chapter, contact our VP of Membership at membership@ydwa.org for more information.

What food will be served? What do I do if I have a food allergy or other dietary restriction?

We will have chicken, salmon, vegetarian, and vegan/gluten-free options (4 total).

Please let us know during registration if you have any kind of allergy or another kind of dietary restriction that the four options do not already accommodate.

We will have a list of ingredients for each option during check-in for you to look over and confirm your ability to eat.

If you are unable to eat them, we will attempt to work with the hotel to accommodate your restrictions and encourage you to bring your own food to the banquet should that be impossible.

Do I need to be 18 or 21? What is the maximum age of attendees?

We encourage attendees to be above the age of 14, and welcome parents bringing their children and teenagers bringing their parent(s).

If you would like to bring your parent(s) or another chaperone, please let us know at operations@ydwa.org – they will only be required to pay the registration fee should they want to attend the reception, banquet, panels, workshops, etc.

Children under the age of 14 brought by attendees under the age of 36 will not be charged any registration fee (just let us know).

There will be alcohol during the receptions and banquet for those over 21 and folks may choose to drink socially in their hotel rooms on Friday and Saturday night. You are not required to attend any of these parts of the event (no part is mandatory).

There will be a “dry” (sober) game night on Saturday night following the banquet for those who would like to socialize in a space with no alcohol.

Attendees must be below the age of 36.

I need accommodations for my disability – what do I do?

The Young Democrats of Washington is committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, and activities for individuals with disabilities.

To request disability accommodation contact our VP of Operations as soon as possible and at least ten days in advance of the event via email at operations@ydwa.org.

What positions can I run for? How I do run for a position?

You can run for:

  •     • President
  •     • Executive Vice President
  •     • Vice President of Operations
  •     • Vice President of Membership
  •     • Vice President of Government Affairs
  •     • Vice President of Communications
  •     • Eastern Region Director
  •     • Western Region Director
  •     • Southern Region Director

Job descriptions and the process for elections can be found in our constitution here. We will elect these positions during our general session on Sunday.

We will determine the job descriptions of and appoint non-voting “Director” positions soon after the Convention so stay tuned if you don’t feel like you’re quite ready to run (yet!), if nothing here interests you, or if you want a lower-level commitment.

What do I do if I don’t have a car?

Let us know during registration and we will do our best to connect you with someone able to carpool others over from around your area!

What do I do if I can’t afford to purchase a ticket?

Let our VP of Operations know at operations@ydwa.org and we will work with you to get a reduced price or comped ticket!
